At the last minute Memorial Day cooking "Lemon Garlic Chicken Wings "

Hi Beautiful Ones!  I hope your long Memorial weekend is going great so far. Yesterday was not such a great day for me. I turned on my computer and was preparing to update my blog and the whole thing was gone. My whole blog got deleted by blogger with no explanation and no forewarning. I was mortified and spent a very frustrating day trying to get it restored.  Can you imagine waking up one day and your whole blog is gone and you have to start over with nothing? I am so glad that everything worked out.

That taught me a very valuable lesson about how important it is to back everything up.

Wooooooh! now that the blogger folks have taken care of that fiasco yesterday. Lets Cook!  This recipe is for lemon garlic chicken wings. I thought this would be a refreshing change from the buffalo wings most of us are used to. This is an easy recipe and if you don't have wings, you can do this with regular chicken as well.
I must warn you that they are saucy and delicious and we all know that there is just not a cute way to eat a chicken wing...LOL

Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 pounds chicken wings
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3 tablespoons fresh rosemary leaves stripped from stems
  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 lemon, zested and juiced
  • 1 tablespoon grill seasoning blend (recommended: Montreal Seasoning) or, coarse salt and black pepper
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine or chicken broth
Directions

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.

Generously coat wings with olive oil and then combine dry seasonings and coat chicken wings with seasoning. Let marinate for 30 minutes (overnight is even better)

Spray baking sheet with vegetable cooking spray or lightly oil the pan with canola oil. Arrange wings in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast for 30 minutes. Turn wings over and roast another ten minutes. While wings are roasting combine lemon juice and wine or broth and Roast another 5 minutes to blend the flavors.

Shrimp and Chicken Pad Thai :)

Pad Thai is one of those dishes with multiple dimensions of flavor. Chock full of spices, vegetables, noodles, what's not to love? I always order this when I go out for Thai food, but I wanted to switch it up and make it myself.  I had all of the ingredients on hand except for the noodles, which I purchased in the Asian section of  the grocery store.  This dish is very filling and bursting with flavor and texture!  It takes a little time to prepare this dish, but I promise it will be time well spent. When those delicious aromas start floating around the neighborhood,  you might have a few new friends after you make this dish:-)

Just the hint before jumps to cooking : Garlic adds delicious flavor and has lots of great health benefits too :)
Bean Sprouts add lots of crunchy texture.
Lime adds a refreshing burst of flavor .
Cilantro is the perfect topping for this dish!
A hint of chopped peanuts on top makes this extra special.

I love this with Shrimp and Chicken, but you can easily make this a vegetarian dish by omitting the shrimp and chicken or you can substitute with Tofu.  Ok, lets make Pad Thai!

Ingredients

  • 1 (8 ounce) package dried flat rice noodles
  • 3 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Asian chili pepper sauce, divided
  • 1/4 cup chicken stock
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
  • 8 ounces medium shrimp - peeled and deveined
  • 8 ounces skinless, boneless chicken breast halves - cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups bean sprouts
  • 6 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chopped unsalted dry-roasted peanuts
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 lime, cut into 8 wedges
  • 1 additional cup of bean sprouts for topping
Instructions

  1. Fill a large bowl with hot tap water and place the noodles in it to soak for 20 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl, stir together the fish sauce, lime juice, sugar, oyster sauce, 2 teaspoons of the chili sauce and chicken stock. Set aside.
  3. Heat a wok or large skillet over high heat and add vegetable oil. When the oil is hot, stir in garlic and cook for about 10 seconds. Add shrimp and chicken; cook, stirring constantly until shrimp is opaque and chicken is cooked through, 5 to 7 minutes.
  4. Move everything in the wok out to the sides and pour the eggs in the center. Cook and stir the eggs until firm. Add the noodles to the wok and pour in the sauce. Cook, stirring constantly, until the noodles are tender. Add a bit more water if needed to finish cooking the noodles. Stir in 3 cups of bean sprouts and green onions. Remove from the heat and garnish with chopped peanuts. Taste for seasoning, adjusting the spice or lime juice if needed.
  5. Serve garnished with fresh cilantro and remaining bean sprouts and lime wedges on the side.

Your Summer-Movie Guide :20 Flicks Even Hotter Than the Weather Outside

Hollywood is working hard to get our butts into movie-theater seats this summer—and with a roster like this, it’s not going to be too difficult. Whether you want blockbusters featuring Superman or super man Will Smith, some of the best indie hits out of Sundance, or a hilarious lady comedy, there’s a movie for you. Right this way for insanely good entertainment.

After Earth (May 31)

This M. Night Shyamalan movie made the cut because of four words: Will and Jaden Smith. Take Pursuit of Happyness, add 10 years, scary monsters, and a father and son kicking butt together instead of solving Rubik’s Cubes, and Shyamalan may finally have a hit on his hands that doesn’t involve seeing dead people.

The seven biggest mistakes in applying foundation !

beauty and fashionfemale makeover

Foundation is the most important part of makeup, the base on which all else is built. If you mess up this part of your make up the rest of it will look odd, no matter how expertly it is done. Here are the most common mistakes women make when applying foundation:

1.    Choosing the wrong nuance

All make-up artists are of the opinion that foundation should be in the same tone as your natural complexion. To determine the perfect tone for your skin apply a line of each of the 3 or 4 colors that seem closest to your complexion to your jawline and choose the one that blends most invisibly.

2.    Applying foundation with force

If you assert too much pressure on your sponge or applicator you will not get a better coverage. All you will accomplish by rubbing too hard is reddening of the skin and an uneven distribution of foundation. For a better effect use your fingertips and apply the foundation with light circular motions.

3.    Applying foundation with insufficient light

If the room is too bright or too dark you will not be able to see properly and cover all of your face evenly. When you go outside, the daylight will make your mistakes visible. Our advice is to create your makeup in the same light in which you will be wearing it.

4.    There are visible traces on your neck or chin

Make sure you spread and blend your foundation, especially around the edges. Pay extra attention to the following areas: the hairline, under and around the nose, the ears, the chin and jawline and especially the neck.

5.    You are applying more than is needed

If you are trying to cover up some defect, you should know that masking it over with foundation has the reverse effect. Spread the foundation in an even layer over your whole face; do not pile it in one area, because this will attract attention to this area.

6.    You are using excessive amounts of the product

Your skin needs air, so in this case “The less the better” is the rule to go by. Otherwise you may be mistaken for a clown.

7.    You have not prepared the skin before applying foundation

First of all you have to clean the skin. Then you have to hydrate it with a moisturizing lotion. You can begin applying foundation once the moisturizer is completely absorbed.

Key lime Parfait :)

Key Lime pie is one of those desserts that screams SUMMER, but it is so refreshing and delicious, it would be a shame to only indulge in this for one season.  These parfaits have the scrumptious taste of Key Lime Pie, but have the beautiful presentation of a parfait.

And the dessert is so simple, you will have a great dessert with very little fuss.  I love to eat this in my backyard with my feet up while I relax and watch butterflies having fun:-)  In the winter, enjoy this and smile when you think of what a great summer you had. For a great touch for entertaining, try serving these in shot glasses with mini spoons.

A gratuitous whipped cream shot. There is nothing quite like homemade whipped cream.
Are you convinced?

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon grated lime peel
  • 1-2 cups chilled whipping cream
  • Pure Vanilla Extract

Directions

Melt butter in heavy small skillet over medium heat. Mix in sugar and stir until bubbling, about 1 minute. Mix in crumbs; stir until color deepens, about 3 minutes. Turn out onto plate and cool.

Stir condensed milk, lime juice and lime peel in large bowl to blend (mixture will thicken).

For whipped cream topping, beat 1 cup whipping cream in bowl until stiff peaks start to form. Add 1/4 cup powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Make sure the bowl and the beaters are cold. It helps if you put the bowl in the freezer and the beaters 10 minutes before you make the whipped cream.

Using electric mixer, beat cream in medium bowl until firm peaks form; fold into lime mixture.

Place 1/4 cup lime mousse in each of six 8- to 10-ounce wine goblets. Top each with 1 tablespoon crumb mixture, then 1/4 cup mousse. Top parfaits with remaining crumb mixture. Refrigerate at least 1 hour and up to 4 hours. Just before serving, add a generous dollop of whipped cream.

Shoe Rack Gardening Organizer {Gardening}

Now that gardening season is upon us this gardening organizer is perfect! You’ll use an old shoe rack and some clay pots! So easy to set up and use, you’ll be able to see everything you need to make your garden beautiful!

Well, it might not be the prettiest thing, but it sure makes me happy every time I see it sitting there in the corner of my mud room, all ready to help whenever needed.

We've had a bit of a problem since moving into this house almost two years ago. Our garage is a disaster zone unlike you've ever seen. I promise you. The tools and hardware and junk are all piled together in giant heaps on top of the various work benches. So finding anything is nearly impossible, if you can even get to the work benches past the bikes, several ride-on lawn mowers, stacks of flooring waiting to be installed and power tools all over the floor. It's bad.

There's a little skinny hard-to-get-to cupboard in the house that I was using, but it wasn't working out so well, and my "house tools" kept mysteriously ending up back in the garage.

I found this old shoe rack in the basement, and you might have one just like it lurking around somewhere. I put it by the door to the mudroom and now everything I need is right there waiting for me on my way outside. The little angled shelves are perfect for grabbing whatever I need quickly and easily.
Terra cotta pots make it even easier to fill er' up with all my gardening and quick home repair necessities.
So what do we have here? Just the basics. Stuff I use everyday-ish. A hammer, tape measure, screw drivers, and wrenches, gardening gloves, a little shovel and some pruners, seeds and fertilizer, and some tie-downs for when we're taking yard waste to the recycling center.

As I recover more and more useful tools from the garage, I have room for them on my little stand! It's a silly little thing, but it makes me happy.

Well, yes, it probably would make me even happier if I just cleaned out the garage. I'm hoping to get started on that one too a bit this month.

Until then, I'm happy with my little shoe rack.:)

DIY Picture Frame idea for Dorm and Apertment :)

Let’s face it: when you’re out on your own for the first time it can get ridiculously expensive to decorate your first place. And if you have a lot of pictures of friends and family lying around but not a lot of picture frames you could be looking at a very expensive problem…unless you turn to this neat DIY tape picture frame ! Using simple materials like ribbon and tape you can create a unique and cool frame that suits your sensibilities.
One thing that you do need to keep in mind is that, since you’re using tape, you need to make sure your pictures are secured and don’t have too much tape residue on them as that can make it a bit difficult to remove the frames without tearing your photos. However you could always remedy this problem by simply making copies of your photos.

When I moved into my first apartment a year and a half later, I had mostly abandoned this style of decorating. Instead, I was determined to make my new living space as adult as possible. After all, this was a real apartment. Equipped with cheap frames from the dollar store, I arranged several of my own photographs on my bedroom walls. Even if they weren’t expensive custom frames, they made me feel infinitely more grown up.

Indeed, there is something inherently sophisticated about hanging picture frames on one’s walls. Perhaps it’s because they lend a space some semblance of intent, rather than the feeling that random bits have been thrown together. Unfortunately, many rentals and dorms restrict frame use because of rules forbidding nails or tacks. Additionally, frames can be cumbersome to move and ones that aren’t from the dollar store can be quite costly.

As a cheap, easy and surprisingly chic alternative, consider framing magazine clippings, photographs and postcards with different colored tapes. The supplies travel lightly, can be changed frequently and can be purchased for very little.

To make these fun and stylish tape picture frames, all you’ll need are a few images to frame, one or more kinds of decorative tape, scissors and an X-Acto knife or similar blade. For tape, we used Japanese washi tape (available at many craft stores or online here), black masking tape and copper foil tape. Tape comes in all shapes, sizes, colors and textures, so do some browsing and find what you like best!

When you have your materials assembled, begin by taping up a single image. It’s important to tape up and frame your images one at a time so you can be sure of how much surrounding wall space you’ll have left. Once your image is up, take a roll of tape and make a frame around your image, adjusting the size and amount of interior space to your liking. As illustrated in the first image, you can go far beyond a simple rectangular frame. Mix it up! If there are bits of tape that are longer than others or overlapping in awkward ways, use your X-Acto blade to carefully trim off the excess. Move the blade lightly over the tape to avoid putting marks on the actual wall. This technique is especially useful when making non-rectangular frames.

Ta-da! That’s it! Easy peasy. Now gather some tape and some pictures, and make yourself some snazzy frames. I guarantee you’ll feel instantly fancier.

'The Hangover Part III': The bromance is over

Advertised as the epic finale of a trilogy, "The Hangover Part III" isn't so much a movie as it is a marketing plane that happens to be projected on movie screens. The first film worked in part thanks to the easy/lazy byplay between its three dude-sketeer leads, Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis, and in part thanks to the plot's "Memento"-on-meth arc, as the three had to piece together a Vegas bachelor party night they couldn't remember throughout

Monster Cookie Dough Cupcakes Recipe! Lets our long weekend begin ;)

I’m really sorry to have to do this to you, but I have the best cupcake recipe to share with you today.  Break out your stretchy pants before you bake these up because these cupcakes are FAN-TAB-ULOUS!  I just might sneak another because I know once Mr. Wishes gets a hold of them, only crumbs will remain.

These babies are amazing.  You have to like peanut butter, obviously, because there is a good amount of peanut butter that goes into these cupcakes, as well as the frosting.  So peanut butter lovers will definitely double their pleasure with these.  Basically, this is a super moist and rich peanut butter cupcake, with chocolate chips, and monster cookie dough frosting to top it all off.

If your frosting is runny, then you probably need to add a little more powdered sugar.  So don’t be afraid to add this extra powdered sugar to bring the consistency of the frosting to where you want it to be as far as thickness goes.
I have to say this is a keeper and will be made over and over again…

Monster Cookie Dough Cupcakes Recipe!

INGREDIENTS:

*makes about 12 cupcakes*
For the Cupcakes:
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
1 cup sugar
2 whole eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/3 cup milk
1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
For the Cookie Dough Frosting:
8 oz. cream cheese, softened (don’t use reduced fat or fat free!)
1/2 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. creamy peanut butter
1- 2 c. powdered sugar
3 Tbsp. brown sugar
3 Tbsp. all purpose flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. oats
3/4 bag plain mini M&Ms
3/4 cup mini or regular semi-sweet chocolate chips

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 350ยบ.
Use a hand or stand mixer to whisk together all of the cupcake ingredients except for the chocolate chips. Then, stir in the chocolate chips with a spoon or spatula.
Fill each cupcake liner about 2/3 full of batter. Bake for 20 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.  Let cool on a wire rack.
Meanwhile, use a stand mixer dough paddle to beat together the cream cheese, butter, and peanut butter until smooth.
Mix in the brown sugar, flour, vanilla, and oats.
Mix in the powdered sugar 1 cup at a time (1 and 1/2 cups worked out best for me).
Finally add the M&Ms and Chocolate chips, mix well.
Use a large cookie scoop or ice cream scoop to scoop out the cookie dough onto the completely cooled cupcakes.

This is the bank vault that saved 24 people during Oklahoma tornado !!

Tinker Federal Credit Union branch vault after the tornado (© Tinker Federal Credit Union via Facebook)

It's a testament to ... something. Awesome vault construction? The human will to survive? Either way, the fact that 24 people took shelter in this vault at the Tinker Federal Credit Union branch during the Oklahoma tornado, and the fact that it's still standing amid the rubble of the utterly destroyed building are both very impressive. The bank manager's dedication is admirable as well, remaining with the safe even after being rescued until it could be locked up and secured again. Two dozen people have been confirmed killed in the EF5 tornado (the highest grade), and its 17-mile path resulted in at least $1 billion in damage. [Source]

Here are before and after shots of the Tinker FCU branch in Moore, Okla.

Seaweed helps in the fight against wrinkles and aging !!

Certain kinds of seaweed contain substances which can be very effective in the battle against wrinkles and aging.
  • Minerals: such as sodium and potassium (which regulate the water balance), sodium chloride and calcium (which are good for the teeth and bones), magnesium (helps in the regulation of the cardio-vascular and muscular systems), iron (which helps transfer oxygen to the cells) and iodine (regulates metabolism and the function of the thyroid).
  • They are also rich in microelements: phosphorus (which provides energy), boron, fluoride and copper (which have and anti-inflammatory effect), sulfur, magnesium, chrome, barium and nickel (which aid the absorption of iron), vanadium, silver, titanium and silicon (also known as “the beauty minerals”, because they help the skin and capillaries retain their elasticity).
  • Seaweed contains vitamins A, B1, B5, B12, C, E, D (essential for normal metabolism), pro-vitamin D and also the pigments chlorophyll and xanthophyll.
  • Sugars such as glucose, galactose, mannose, xylose, arabinose and rhamnose.
High-quality cosmetic products use seaweed harvested from the depths of the sea, since the kinds that grow close to the surface lose some of their healing properties.

Today there are around 30,000 kinds of seaweed known to man. Scientists have discovered that one kilogram of seaweed contains as much minerals, microelements, amino acids and plant hormones as are found in 100, 000 liters of sea water. The thousands of different enzymes are extremely valuable for proper digestion.

Seaweeds have a cleansing and detoxifying effect on the body. They are extremely rich in beta-carotene, vitamins C and E, manganese, zinc, magnesium, calcium, copper, iron, selenium, chrome and other elements used for the production of antioxidant enzymes in the body, which in turn counteract the free radicals responsible for premature aging. Research shows that women who consume more seafood rarely suffer from osteoporosis and have a stronger skeletal system.
Seaweeds activate the nervous system and help fight depression, sadness and the lack of concentration. Seaweed therapy refreshes the skin, tones it and gives it a healthier look.

Weight loss mistakes to avoid !

image: © KR MEDIA Productions / Fotolia

Weight loss treatments and supplements are widely available. Using these proves to be beneficial for reducing several pounds per in a month.
But, never use weight loss plans, pills, supplements blindly. Do not follow workouts that you can’t continue.
To understand what major mistakes people make while losing weight read below.
  1. First biggest mistake is to focus on just one activity. Either cut down your diet plans to very less food intake or just following a walk is not enough to get faster results of weight loss. Always consider both. Follow a diet plan along with exercise gives best results. It maintains health of the body.
  2. Second mistake that is most common is to cut down your food too much that you start facing a problem of deprivation. No need to stop eating or skipping meals to reduce weight. Eat well to increase your metabolism rate but digest it properly and follow diet plans and exercises to burn the calories.
  3. Third mistake is to make a plan of reducing several pounds in one month. The more you reduce at once more it will come back to you. Start reducing with slow speed.
  4. Fourth mistake is to eat random things. Your body needs essential mineral all the time. You can’t ignore one and start taking another. This will affect your health. Try to take all minerals that are required by the body in proper amount.
  5. Fifth mistake which is very common is to remove oil from the food. Your body never works without fat. You should try some mono-saturated fats in your diet plans to provide the necessary fat to the body. Choose selective fats for the body but never choose fat free diet plans.
All these mistakes are very common. People start taking diet pills and want faster results from extra weight. You should not make above mentioned mistakes. Keep away from these and take help from experts.

Mom 'pops some tags' to teach bully daughter a lesson

Thrift store punishment for bullying: Thrift-store clothing.

Check out this great MSN video - Bully punished with ugly clothing
Bully punished with ugly clothing

A mother in Utah learned her daughter was teasing children at school for their clothing, so she took a trip to the thrift shop.

When Ally learned her stepdaughter was bullying other children at school, she devised a punishment much more fitting than a grounding.

According to
Fox 13 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Ally learned that stepdaughter Kaylee was teasing another student at school because of how she dressed. Ally and Kaylee are both identified only by their first names to protect their identities.

Fox reported that Ally talked to Kaylee about the bullying, which reportedly included name-calling, but the girl did not seem to get the message. That's when Ally decided to give Kaylee the ultimate dressing down.

Fox said Ally went to a local thrift store and bought about $50 worth of clothing. The next day, a thrift store outfit Kaylee would never normally wear awaited her, complete with old sneakers.

Kaylee told Fox she cried when she saw the outfit. The girl said her classmates talked about her behind her back when she showed up to school in her new duds.

"I thought this is a perfect moment for us to really teach her, this is right, this is wrong, which path are you going to take? And then it's her choice," Ally told Fox.

Most Oklahoma structures lack the kind of basement where students and teachers reportedly took shelter from Monday’s tornado.

They huddled in hallways, clung to walls inside bathrooms and reportedly sought shelter in the school's basement. The terrified children and teachers at the Plaza Towers Elementary School in Moore, Okla., were in all the right places, tornado safety experts say.

But conventional wisdom couldn’t save every young life when skies darkened and a ferocious 198 mph twister battered the building on Monday.

A: Jolie had a preventive double mastectomy, meaning she chose to have both her breasts removed even though she had not been diagnosed with cancer.

Q: Why did she have the mastectomies?

A: Jolie says that she has a "faulty" version of the BRCA1 gene that means she has an 87 percent chance of getting breast cancer. By having both breasts removed preventively, she said her breast cancer risk drops to 5 percent.

Q: How many women have this faulty gene?

A: Only a small percentage of women have this same faulty gene, or a similar mutated version of a related gene, BRCA 2. These mutations are most commonly found in women of Eastern European Jewish descent; one study found 2.3 percent of women in that group had the mutations — about five times higher than in the general population. Other ethnic groups, including the Norwegian, Dutch and Icelandic people, also have slightly higher rates of these mutations.

Q: How do these genes increase a woman's risk of breast cancer?

A: The average woman has a 12 percent risk of developing breast cancer sometime during her life. In comparison, women who have inherited a faulty version of a breast cancer gene are about five times more likely to get breast cancer. In the U.S., about 5 to 10 percent of breast cancers are thought to be linked to harmful versions of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes.

Q: How can women find out if they have these gene mutations?

A: A genetic test using a blood test can usually detect these genes. In the U.S., there are no standard guidelines recommending women for BRCA1 or BRCA2 genetic testing. The tests usually cost at least several hundred dollars.
