Facial cosmetics and their expiration date ;)

Facial cosmetics are very delicate and can do more harm than good if you do not keep track of their expiration date. Yes, cosmetics have an expiration date, just as medical products do and you should remove them from your cosmetics bag as soon as this date is past.

This sounds simple enough, but there is a problem that many people, especially those who travel a lot, occasionally encounter. The problem is that there are no international standards for marking the expiration date, so the markings are different in Europe and in North America. So here is what you should know about the expiration of makeup:

Makeup expires more quickly in countries or states with a tropical climate.

If you want your cosmetics to last longer, then do not store them in the bathroom where there is moisture. Keep them in a cool dry place, preferably in a zip-lock bag outside the reach of oxygen, and do not use them with wet or dirty hands.

Mascara is a product that you should be extra careful with. Its shelf life is typically anywhere from 3 to 6 months. This is a product based on water, so it is a breeding ground for bacteria, which mean that your mascara can go bad long before its 3 months are up. Avoid sharing cosmetics with your friends, especially mascara.

Make up for combination/oliy skin

ColorStay Makeup With Softflex for Combination/Oily Skin

Why: Readers say this is a "must-have" for women with oily skin, because its "high coverage formula covers acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and blemishes" and leaves you with "flawless-looking skin all day." One reader with skin she describes as "an oil slick" says this makeup "lasts even through swimming." Another says, "I have the greasiest face, but this stays put for a long time -- even when I'm super active." Others have dropped their high-end brands for this drugstore foundation since it's "better than any Estee Lauder or Clinique product I've tried."

The seven biggest mistakes in applying foundation !

beauty and fashionfemale makeover

Foundation is the most important part of makeup, the base on which all else is built. If you mess up this part of your make up the rest of it will look odd, no matter how expertly it is done. Here are the most common mistakes women make when applying foundation:

1.    Choosing the wrong nuance

All make-up artists are of the opinion that foundation should be in the same tone as your natural complexion. To determine the perfect tone for your skin apply a line of each of the 3 or 4 colors that seem closest to your complexion to your jawline and choose the one that blends most invisibly.

2.    Applying foundation with force

If you assert too much pressure on your sponge or applicator you will not get a better coverage. All you will accomplish by rubbing too hard is reddening of the skin and an uneven distribution of foundation. For a better effect use your fingertips and apply the foundation with light circular motions.

3.    Applying foundation with insufficient light

If the room is too bright or too dark you will not be able to see properly and cover all of your face evenly. When you go outside, the daylight will make your mistakes visible. Our advice is to create your makeup in the same light in which you will be wearing it.

4.    There are visible traces on your neck or chin

Make sure you spread and blend your foundation, especially around the edges. Pay extra attention to the following areas: the hairline, under and around the nose, the ears, the chin and jawline and especially the neck.

5.    You are applying more than is needed

If you are trying to cover up some defect, you should know that masking it over with foundation has the reverse effect. Spread the foundation in an even layer over your whole face; do not pile it in one area, because this will attract attention to this area.

6.    You are using excessive amounts of the product

Your skin needs air, so in this case “The less the better” is the rule to go by. Otherwise you may be mistaken for a clown.

7.    You have not prepared the skin before applying foundation

First of all you have to clean the skin. Then you have to hydrate it with a moisturizing lotion. You can begin applying foundation once the moisturizer is completely absorbed.

Playing with color – three unusual makeup ideas for bold, creative ladies ;)

Makeup

New tendencies always tend to attract people like a magnet. In order to be in tune with fashion, sometimes we have to experiment. Those of you who are afraid of nothing can create and enjoy unique and interesting designs of makeup.

Color

Unusual and unexpected colors, boldness, unquenchable thirst for experimenting – this is the true love of makeup. You only need to overcome your shyness and you will be inspired. There is no rule on colors which cannot be successfully broken with a little imagination.

Speaking of bold, rich colors, here are the top three: green, blue and purple.
If you’re dreaming of glamour and extravagance, think gold, burgundy or dark green.

You can create depth using matted colors or “frost” your makeup with brilliant shine.
To draw attention to the lips, give them color! Bright red and hot pink give character to your makeup.

Playing with color does not always equal choosing rich, bright tones. You can try the opposite – a minimalistic approach with unclear, blurry tones. This is the makeup of the ice queen – white and orange, white and pink, white coral.

Harmony and disharmony

You can bathe in colors, connect them, combine them and mix them. Use rich but clear tones and go for quality rather than quantity. Caked makeup is never beautiful.

Imagine wine, these deep tones of red, burgundy and purple. It looks like lipstick – bold and rich, yet light. Choosing tones from the red specter is provocative and brave. You will have to be confident.
Think clean. If you apply a bright color of lipstick let it stand out against the background of your natural complexion. Leave the rest of your face plain or use tones which are close to the tone of your skin in order to avoid looking tacky.

For an added effect you can experiment with different colors of lip liner and lipstick. Example: red lip liner, burgundy lipstick. Use gloss for creating a 3D effect.
Leave your cheeks “clear” and use only face powder similar to your complexion.

Architectural quirks

To achieve an exquisitely dramatic makeup, accentuate the protruding parts of your face. A good way to do that is to highlight or lighten the eyebrows and cheekbones. Think sexy, innocent, naked… your invisible makeup is enchanting and seductive.

The first step to the perfect skin is cleaning and toning it. Lighten those parts of your face which do not need color, like the bone directly below the eyebrow arch, cheekbones, inner corners of the eye. Apply a neutral tone of eye-shadows below the lower lashes and in the fold of the eyelid. This will invisibly accentuate the eyes.

Use blush in gentle pink or peach tones on the cheekbones.
Trace the lips with lip liner in a neutral color; apply pale pink lipstick or a balm with a slight coloring effect.

Now you have three different and easy ideas. Try them on, at least for inspiration. Let your imagination lead you to express your individuality in your own makeup ideas and creations. Be brave. Enjoy color. Love life.

Top 10 Tips to Make a Mani or Pedi Last !

Let's face it, salon manicures and pedicures look great for about…three days. Then real life gets in the way (as it tends to) and that poor mani/pedi gets scuffed. One wrong move and your gorgeous nails chip, crack, and peel.

I'm no stranger to a chipped mani here (especially a fresh one) or a smudged pedi there. There's really nothing more frustrating than spending what feels like half a day in the salon, only to reach into your purse and snag your nails on the zipper of your wallet. (Ladies, you know what I'm talking about.)

That sort of mishap is fixable at the salon, but what about 30 minutes later when you look down and notice you've chipped the corner of your pinkie nail? That kind of mess you have to clean up at home — by yourself.

Stress not. I have ten easy tips to make your nails last well into next week.

1. Start With a Clean Nail Bed

Whether you're giving yourself a mani/pedi or getting one at a salon, make sure your nails get cleaned properly before you do anything else. (Do not skip this step.) Our nails secrete natural oils, making it harder for nail polish to adhere to the bed.

2. File First

Uneven filing or snags at the end of your nails are invitations for disaster. Make sure your nails are evenly filed, straight across with slightly rounded edges. The "squoval" shape keeps the longest without causing chips.

How to: For tips on pulling off a great at-home pedicure, check out this video.

3. Rinse Between Cleaning and Filing

After filing your nails, wash your hands thoroughly to get rid of any filings or snags. You don't want flecks in your nail polish.

4. Be Sure to Properly Dry Nails

Painting even a slightly wet nail bed can ruin the entire manicure.

5. Use a Base Coat

Skipping the base coat in a manicure is so tempting. Who has the time to wait around for four layers of polish? You do. (If you want the manicure to last.) Using a base coat ensures you have a clean, smooth surface to paint.

6. Apply Two Layers of Color

It's tempting to glop on one thick coat of nail polish color and call it a day. But you'll pay later for skipping out on that second coat when indentations show up to ruin your hard work. Be patient and paint one thin layer of color at a time. Wait two minutes (at least!) between the first and second coat of color so things don't get sticky. (Gross.)

7. Apply a Top Coat

Again, a top coat seems like a step that's easy to skip. Don't be tempted. Your pretty nails need a top coat to seal in the color. The top coat will also take the brunt of the wear and tear on your mani/pedi. Just remember, before you apply, make sure the colored polish is dry.

8. Do Not Touch Anything

This may seem obvious, but many a mani/pedi has met its demise by not following this rule. Not waiting long enough for your polish to dry is the No. 1 mistake most of us make. Sure, we're all in a hurry. But if you don't wait long enough, the whole thing will have been a waste of your time. Fact: Nails need at least 45 minutes to an hour to dry completely. I'm such a big offender, bumping my nails all over the place before they're dry.

9. Treat Nicks Immediately

Whether you're two hours or two days out from your manicure or pedicure, fill a nick or scratch immediately with nail polish in the same color family. This will prevent the problem from getting worse.

10. Continue to Reapply the Top Coat

Keep a top coat handy — in your car, at your desk, or on your nightstand. Be sure to apply a thin layer every few days to keep your nails strong and protected.

All these steps may seem like a lot of work, but it's worth it in the end. A mani/pedi can last a couple of weeks if you take care of your nails along the way. No shortcuts! Shop Now !

Beauty Tips : 4 Ways to Wear 1 Lipstick

Bold, bright lipsticks are all the rage, but not always appropriate for every occasion. Here are four ways to wear a bold, highly-pigmented lipstick, ranging from very sheer to dramatic.

Step-by-Step:

1. Wear lipstick as a stain: Using your ring finger, dab the lipstick and lightly apply to your lips with your finger. Be sure to press the lipstick into the natural wrinkles of the lips, ensuring a nice, sheer stain.

2. Use lipstick as a cheek stain: Apply lipstick to the back of the hand. Using your finger, rub the lipstick on the hand to warm it up and then sparingly apply to the apples of the cheeks. Use another finger to blend upwards and outwards. Keep it sheer!

3. A classic lip: Using a lip brush ensures that every bit of the lip is covered evenly. To create a more intense look, apply a matching lip liner around the natural line of the lip after lipstick application.

4. Glossy color: For the most drama, apply a gloss to create high shine on the lips. Use a clear gloss or a coordinating gloss to make your vibrant lips super shiny!

Tip: If you don't want to shell out the big bucks for a super bright lipstick, drugstores have great versions!
